Ray Tomlinson, The inventor of email @ peace

Love it or loathe it, email is a big part of modern day life. It’s easy to forget that this basic means of modern communication was actually invented by someone. That someone was Ray Tomlinson who passed away aged 74 at the weekend.

An official statement sums him and his achievement up perfectly “A true technology pioneer, Ray was the man who brought us email in the early days of networked computers”. Gmails official Twitter account makes a further point with “Thank you Ray Tomlinson, for inventing email and putting the @ sign on the map”.

So next time you’re creating an email campaign or have just received a money off voucher for your favourite restaurant, give a little thanks to Ray for making it all possible.
